By Nathaniel Perez
The Second Congressional District
Covering the northern third of Nevada, the 2nd congressional district includes most of Lyon County, all of Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Storey, and Washoe counties, as well as the state capital, Carson City. The largest city in the district is Reno.
Mark Amodei
Incumbent
Republican
Rep. Amodei is seen as the favorite in a district where Republicans have nearly 50,000 more active registered voters than Democrats. A former state senator, Amodei first won the congressional seat during a special election on September 13, 2011 defeating Democrat Kate Marshall.
Rep. Amodei is a proponent of tax cuts, and wants to repeal and replace Obamacare. On immigration issues, he supports a path to citizenship for some undocumented immigrants. On gun laws, he supports better reporting to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
Clint Koble
Democrat
Koble won a very competitive Democratic Party primary on June 12, 2018, edging out other candidates with just over 26% of the vote. Koble wants to strengthen Obamacare and move toward Medicare for all. He wants to protect collective bargaining and work toward comprehensive immigration reform as soon as possible. He supports instant background checks of all gun sales.
